Meet Our Coaches

Coach Jake Willsey

Jake is the Founder and Lead Performance Coach at The Stable. Jake played baseball at Tulane from 2014-2017 where he was a four year starter for nationally ranked teams, then briefly in Independent Leagues and overseas. While at Tulane, he would receive his degree in Health & Wellness before pursuing his Master’s.

Jake interned at The Strength House at the end of 2020 and where he would proceed to train athletes until early 2024, learning the whole time under Greg Robins. He would proceed to earn the role of Senior Strength Coach along the way.

Always fascinated by the training side of athletic development, Jake has been fortunate enough to help train athletes from youth ages all the way into the professional ranks in such sports as baseball, lacrosse, soccer, hockey, football, and others. He blends his experiences as an athlete himself, elements of Bill Hartman’s Unified Model of Performance, and tried and true training principles in his coaching.

Athletes can expect to train under a coach that is constantly evolving, learning, and adapting. An appreciation for the unique demands of the context in which each athlete competes guides Jake’s training strategies. Different sports require different training, as do different positions within the same sport. Different builds have unique strengths, weaknesses, and capacities, and Jake’s training is structured around these idiosyncrasies.

Jake holds himself to the highest standards and expects the same out of his athletes. He believes strongly in the 3 Pillars of The Stable: Accountability, Detail, and Community and runs the gym according to those principles.

Coach JP Guerrero

JP graduated from New Mexico Highlands with a BA in Human Performance In Sports. He previously completed his Associates in Arts from New Mexico Military Institute with a concentration in Business.

JP competed at the JuCO and Division 2 levels while at NMMI and NMHU as a relief pitcher. He has also started a career in powerlifting since finishing his baseball career. JP was inspired to become a Performance Coach after he tore his labrum to help prevent pitchers from going through the same stress of injuries.

JP opened his own business in Las Cruces, NM to begin his coaching career. Here, he would spend two years working with pitchers from the ages of 12-18 years old. JP then began the next phase of his career as a Performance Coach with The Strength House in the summer of 2023, working his way from intern to full time coach.

In JP, athletes can expect a coach who has genuine care for his athletes’ successes and is constantly growing his skill set to give his athletes the best opportunity they’ll find.
